Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday to discuss the current political situation in the state.

The meeting took place at Pawar’s residence in Mumbai.

Sources say that Thackeray, who is also the leader of the Shiv Sena party, sought Pawar’s advice on various issues including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the upcoming local body elections, and the political scenario in Maharashtra.

Thackeray’s visit to Pawar’s residence comes amid speculation of a possible realignment of political forces in Maharashtra ahead of the 2024 general elections. There have been reports of a growing rift between the Shiv Sena and its ally, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), over issues such as the transfer of police officials and the allocation of portfolios in the state government.

The meeting between Thackeray and Pawar is seen as an attempt to bridge the differences between the two parties and to forge a united front against their common rival, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Both Thackeray and Pawar have been vocal critics of the BJP-led government at the Centre and have called for a united opposition to take on the ruling party in the next general elections.

Political analysts say that the meeting between the two leaders is significant as it could pave the way for a broader alliance between the Shiv Sena and the NCP, which could potentially include other parties as well.

The political situation in Maharashtra has been volatile in recent months, with the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance facing challenges from within as well as from the BJP. The local body elections, which are scheduled to be held later this year, are seen as a crucial test for the ruling alliance.

In conclusion, the meeting between Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar holds significant importance for the political landscape of Maharashtra, especially in the context of the upcoming local body elections and the 2024 general elections. The possibility of a broader alliance between the Shiv Sena and the NCP could have far-reaching implications for the state’s politics.
