Final Assembly Line (FAL) New to be Set
Hisar to Become India’s First Private Trainer Aircraft Manufacturing Hub by 2025
Sakthi Group and Diamond Aircraft Collaborate to Strengthen India’s Aviation Industry
India is poised to take a major step forward in its aviation industry with the establishment of its first private trainer aircraft manufacturing facility in Hisar, Haryana. The facility will be developed through a partnership between Tamil Nadu-based Sakthi Group and Austria’s Diamond Aircraft Industries. It will focus on assembling and producing DA40 NG trainer aircraft for India’s rapidly expanding flying school sector.
Meeting India’s Growing Need for Pilot Training
With India emerging as the world’s third-largest aviation market, the demand for pilot training is at an all-time high. Recognizing this need, Sakthi Aircraft Industry—a joint venture between Sakthi Group and Diamond Aircraft—has signed an agreement with the Aero Club of India to supply 200 DA40 NG aircraft to various flying training organizations (FTOs). This move is expected to improve flight training infrastructure and reduce dependency on imported trainer aircraft.
Final Assembly Line (FAL) to be Set Up at Hisar Aerodrome
Out of the 200 aircraft ordered, the first 50 will be imported as complete knocked-down (CKD) units from Diamond Aircraft’s facilities in Austria and Canada and will be assembled in India. The remaining 150 aircraft will be produced at a state-of-the-art final assembly line (FAL) at Hisar Aerodrome, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
Hisar’s selection as the manufacturing hub is strategic due to its growing aviation infrastructure and accessibility. The facility aims to manufacture up to 100 trainer aircraft per year, catering to both domestic and international markets.
Boosting ‘Make in India’ and Self-Reliance in Aviation
This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ visions by reducing reliance on imported aircraft and encouraging domestic manufacturing. The DA40 NG is a four-seater, single-engine aircraft known for its efficiency, safety, and reliability—making it an ideal choice for flight training.
By fostering indigenous aircraft production, India is set to enhance its self-reliance in the aviation sector and pave the way for future aerospace developments.
Economic Growth and Employment Opportunities in Haryana
The establishment of this manufacturing facility in Hisar is expected to create a significant number of job opportunities in aviation, engineering, production, supply chain management, and administration. Additionally, this development will boost investments in the aviation sector, positioning Hisar as a key aerospace hub in India.
Encouraging private sector participation in aircraft manufacturing will also promote innovation and technological advancements within the country.
The upcoming trainer aircraft manufacturing facility in Hisar marks a historic moment for India’s aviation industry. Led by Sakthi Group and Diamond Aircraft, this initiative will enhance pilot training infrastructure, support India’s self-reliance efforts, and contribute to economic growth in Haryana. With production set to begin by the end of 2025, this facility will establish India as a significant player in the global trainer aircraft manufacturing sector.
